TBI Transaction Awarded '2005 Deal of The Year'

BAGHDAD (8 March, 2006): The Trade Bank of Iraq is proud to announce that it has won a "2005 Deal of the Year" citation from the prestigious international publication Trade & Forfaiting Review. The award was won for the Framework Agreement between TBI and Ex-Im Bank of the US which allowed Iraq to secure credit for purchases of bulk commodities from the USA.

Working together with JPMorgan Chase and the Ex-Im Bank, the Trade Bank of Iraq issued letters of credit for a total value of $277 million to finance wheat and rice shipments to Iraq. Under the heading "Securing credit for a brighter future", Trade & Forfaiting Review called this ", the most significant use to date of an export credit agency (ECA) in postconflict Iraq on many levels."

Mr. Hussein Al Uzri, TBI chairman and president, said, "We are very pleased with the recognition that this landmark transaction has received. This agreement is a milestone for Iraq and an important step in our country re-establishing its international creditworthiness and business reputation."
