The Trade Bank of Iraq to attend and sponsor the Erbil International Fair 2008
The Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) is looking forward to attending the Erbil International Fair for the third consecutive year. This year, TBI is proud to be one of the main sponsors at the event.
From its establishment in 2003, the purpose of the TBI has been to be a catalyst for regeneration of the Iraqi economy and banking sector and a force for modernisation. It is in this spirit that the Bank is committed to supporting and participating in gatherings such as the Erbil International Fair, which promote the development of the country and its economy.
TBI focuses on both trade finance and project finance, and one of its success stories is the financing of the Erbil Power Plant. For the first time in decades the one million inhabitants of Erbil, in Iraqi Kurdistan, are soon to receive 24 hours of electricity per day, thanks to TBI and the private sector. This is a historical achievement bearing in mind that, up until now: in the summer Erbil and its surroundings received only 4-6 hours of electricity per day, while in wintertime electricity did not extend beyond 1-2 hours per day.
The general economic picture of Iraq has substantially improved. Inflation has come down to 12% this year. One can say with confidence that 85% of the Iraqi territory is now stable. Some major steps have been taken in opening the oil sector to international oil companies.
As a bank, TBI continues to make good progress in 2008 and we face the future with confidence as we continue to play an important role in the rebuilding of Iraq and the development of its private sector.
